That intrepid archeologist, professor, explorer, and adventurer, Mississipi Smith, now faces his greatest challenge: a freak sandstorm in Egypt has uncovered the top of the Great Pyramid of RA the Sun-God. Long thought to be mythical, the discovery of the pyramid has caused great excitement around the world. Already dozens of explorers, singly and in teams, have entered the pyramid through the door at the very top. None have ever returned. You, a lowly undergraduate student in Archaeology, have decided to enter the pyramid on your own and learn its secrets, and (if you can) survive to tell the outside world of its wonders.
In the dark of night, you have crept out of camp and in the door at the top of the Great Pyramid. You have stolen a lantern and some oil for it, but that's all the equipment you were able to take on short notice. However, you expect to find abandoned food and equipment left behind in the pyramid by the other, earlier expeditions. (The ones that didn't make it out -- remember?)
You'll find in your explorations that the old legends were correct: the pyramid is divided into floors or levels, and each level is a maze whose exit leads to the entrance of the next level down. The doors are one-way: after entering a level, the door slams behind you and you cannot return through it. You must find the exit door instead. Furthermore, the exits are locked: before you can leave a level, you must find the key for its exit.
You find other things than keys as you explore: the lost and abandoned detritus of earlier explorers, piles of gold left by ancient RA worshipers, dangerous animals, hidden traps. You must use your ingenuity and the tools you find to avoid the worst of the hazards.
The most exciting of the ancient myths claims that the Sun-God RA owned three sacred talismans: his Crown, his Staff, and his Scarab. The legend says that the light of the Sun will be returned to the bearer of these priceless relics. But the legends also warn that the Scarab, most sacred and powerful of the Relics, bears the Curse of RA. On each level of the Pyramid, a fearsome Guardian will seek to destroy the bearer of the Scarab. The power of the Scarab itself is your best protection against the Guardians.
You realize that you will have to search each level thoroughly, for you do not know where the Relics of RA may be hidden. But if you can find them and return alive, you will be famous forever!
